BlackOut Series Disc Brake Conversions
Bring front disc brakes and the signature BlackOut finish together in one vehicle-specific package. Choose from conversions for classic cars and trucks with OEM or drop-spindle configurations, multiple lug patterns, wheel-component kits, and larger Baer performance systems.
BlackOut Front Disc Brake Conversions
The BlackOut Series takes a front disc brake conversion and extends the dark finish to components normally left bare, zinc, or as contrasting hardware. What sits behind the wheel becomes part of the build's overall visual direction.
The mechanical side varies much more than the finish. Chevy and GMC truck systems split across 5- and 6-lug arrangements, while Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, GTO, Mustang, and Falcon applications introduce different spindle and suspension combinations.
Some conversions work with the original spindle and focus strictly on adding disc brakes. Others use modular 2-inch drop spindles, changing ride height while upgrading the braking system. At the upper end, 13-inch Baer Track 4 packages bring larger rotors and performance calipers into the BlackOut range.
Those larger systems also bring the wheel into the equation. Rotor diameter, caliper profile, spoke shape, and inner-barrel clearance can determine how much of the BlackOut brake package fits behind a particular wheel.
FAQ
How do I choose the right BlackOut disc brake conversion kit?
Start with your vehicle year, make, and model, then confirm the front spindle and suspension configuration currently installed. Check the wheel bolt pattern, available wheel clearance, desired ride height, and whether the vehicle uses manual or power brakes. If the front suspension has previously been modified, select the conversion according to the components currently on the vehicle rather than factory specifications alone.
Should I choose an OEM spindle or 2-inch drop spindle conversion?
Choose according to your current suspension and desired ride height. OEM-spindle conversions allow compatible factory-style spindles to remain part of the setup, while several BlackOut kits use modular 2-inch drop spindles to combine the brake conversion with a lower stance. Camaro, Nova, and Pontiac GTO applications are among the products available with different spindle configurations.
How do I choose between a 5-lug and 6-lug BlackOut truck brake kit?
Confirm the wheel bolt pattern you currently have or plan to use before choosing the conversion. The BlackOut collection includes both 5- and 6-lug configurations for classic Chevy C10 and GMC C15 trucks. Do not choose based on the truck year alone, since existing hubs, wheels, axles, or previous modifications may affect the bolt pattern you need.
What is the difference between a wheel-component kit and a more complete disc brake conversion?
Wheel-component kits focus on the braking components at the wheel and can suit builds where compatible suspension and hydraulic components are already in place. More complete conversions can include additional components depending on the vehicle and configuration. POL offers both wheel-component and broader conversion packages in this collection, so check the individual product contents carefully before ordering.
Will BlackOut disc brake conversions fit my existing wheels?
Fitment depends on rotor diameter, caliper dimensions, wheel diameter, offset, spoke shape, and inner-barrel clearance. Wheel diameter alone does not guarantee compatibility. This becomes especially important with the 13-inch Baer Track 4 systems in the collection. Check the clearance requirements for the exact conversion and use a wheel-clearance template when one is available.
What are the 13-inch BlackOut Baer Track 4 brake conversions for?
The Baer Track 4 products provide a larger performance-oriented brake configuration within the BlackOut collection. Current applications include GM A-, F-, and X-Body vehicles and 1965-69 Ford Mustang. These systems use 13-inch brake packages and should be selected with particular attention to vehicle fitment and available wheel clearance.
Do I need to change my master cylinder or proportioning valve with a BlackOut disc brake conversion?
It depends on the braking system already installed and the conversion you choose. A vehicle changing from front drums to front discs needs hydraulic components suitable for its new brake configuration. Check the master cylinder, proportioning or combination valve, manual or power assist, and existing rear brakes together rather than treating the front conversion as an isolated component.
